Wallapop has integrated Bizum as a payment method, so now you can use Bizum without sharing your number in chat with any user, or making transfers from the Bizum app or your bank’s app. The entire transaction is carried out and processed, from start to finish, within the Wallapop platform. This way, your personal information remains protected. Bizum will be available as a payment method for shipping and in-person purchases.
How does the purchase process work for shipping if I pay with Bizum?
- Tap the “Buy” button on the item you’re interested in.
- Choose your delivery method. Select your pickup location or choose the option to pick it up in person.
- Select your payment method. Among the usual options, you’ll see that Bizum is also listed. Choose this option, select “Continue with purchase,” and confirm the purchase.
- A new Bizum screen will automatically open for you to enter your phone number.
-
Once you’ve entered your number, you’ll be redirected to your bank’s app to authorize the purchase. After confirming, you’ll automatically return to Wallapop.
Remember: At no point during this process do you need to enter your phone number in the chat with the buyer or seller, or share any other personal information. The field where you enter your phone number (the one you see on the screen) is part of Wallapop’s internal payment gateway; it’s not information that the other person can see or receive via chat.
Stay safe when interacting with others. Remember: Items should only be sold within the Wallapop platform, and communication, sales, and shipments must also take place through it. Check out the Wallapop Safety Help Center page for some helpful tips.
Avoid scams: 3 situations you should be aware of
To ensure your safety and avoid scams, be wary and report any user who suggests any of the following actions; our team will review your report:
1. Bizum outside the app
A user insists via chat that you give them your phone number to make a payment or collect money via a direct Bizum transfer between your phones, outside of Wallapop.
What should you know? If you complete the transaction outside the app, we cannot track the payment. If the item isn’t shipped, gets lost in transit, or doesn’t match the listing, we won’t be able to offer you a refund or help you with any disputes.
2. Phishing
You receive a suspicious link via chat (or WhatsApp, text message, or email if you’ve provided your information) that mimics the look and feel of Wallapop or Bizum, asking you to enter your card information or banking credentials to “receive payment.”
- What should you know? Wallapop will never send you an external Bizum link. The entire process begins and ends within our own official app.
3. If you’re a seller: Reverse Bizum fraud
A supposed buyer assures you that they’ve already paid you via Bizum, but what actually appears on your phone is a notification requesting money (a payment request).
- What should you know? Scammers take advantage of your haste to get you to approve the request through your bank. If you accept it, you’ll be the one sending money to the scammer. Remember that to receive payment for a sale on Wallapop, you should never confirm payment requests through your bank.
And remember: if a user pressures you to give them your phone number under the pretext of using Bizum, refuse and always use the official button built into the platform.
Report suspicious behavior or a scam:
- Go to the conversation you’ve had.
- Tap the 3-dot icon to report it.
- You’ll see that the app gives you the option to choose from several reasons for reporting. Try to choose the one that best fits what happened, and if you can’t find the right option, select “Other reasons” and explain what happened so we can help you.
